The subject matter and range visible in Francois’s work is as complex as his personality. Much of what he chose to capture uses an ironic gaze, presenting the static image as a frozen moment in the stream of consciousness. It is as if he poses the question “Did you notice this?”.

Often his images are playful, teasing with a visual pun or juxta-positioning of word and image, often aggressive and confrontational.

He enjoyed the voyeurism the camera offered, especially amongst people and friends, surprising his audience with intimate and stolen moments.

He was technically accomplished, making those images used for publication, especially those of the man-made environment, keenly observed and polished, hence a photographer of choice for architectural images.

Photography was not his livelihood, but certainly his life, he being rarely far from his camera, they always state-of-the-art. His photographic oeuvre has added to the richness of the record of his family and friends and survive him and continue to enrich our lives.
